I've been mentoring kids for several years now as part of Meditation for Juniors, and as I experience these transitory periods including this time where I am nearing the end of my high school life, I want to reflect back on the work that I have done over such years. As such, I asked a few questions to my students, to which they have responded with insightful answers. These answers are edited for clarity, but the main message still applies! Please note that my students are generally very young, so please understand the level of answers!

  1. How have you grown throughout these few years through Meditation for Juniors?

  2. What are some of the things you learned about yourself and meditation?

  3. What do you want to further learn about yourself and meditation?

Student 1:

Q1.

Through this program, I believe I've grown in a few ways.

Mental: Through this program, I gained a magnificent interest in meditation. Because of that reason, I did a lot of meditation. Through meditation, which contains a lot of methods to keep my body’s stillness, I was able to gain a better mental state.

Thinking: Meditation contains many times of stillness, so I used the time thinking about myself. This led me to think more sharply and to think longer.

Q2.

Through meditation, I learned a few things about myself. One thing is that if I had a good experience, I have a high possibility of having a bad experience. The opposite also is right. Another thing is that if I think positively, there would be a high percentage that there would be good stuff on that day.

Q3.

About myself, I want to further learn about what is some factors of success. About meditation, I want to learn what is the best method that is efficient and has the best effects.

Student 2:

Q1.

I meditated a lot and I could live a better life. Because meditation made me calm. So, when I have bad feelings, like problems at school, I meditate and feel better.

Q2.

I learned to know about myself better, so I knew my feelings better. Also, meditation was at first difficult, but when I kept trying it, it became more manageable.

Q3.

I want to know more about who I am, and how to meditate better. I don't think I mastered meditation yet.

Student 3:

Q1.

Before I started this program, I was impatient and distracted a lot. However, consistently after practicing meditation for 10 minutes or so, I became patient and was able to concentrate on my work.

Q2.

I knew that even though I was a bit trained, I was still a little unstable when it comes to controlling my emotions or my actions.

Q3.

I want to learn more about some effective breathing techniques whenever I meditate or need to control my emotions. If there are some steps that can help me calm my moods quickly and effectively, I want to learn about that, too.

Student 4:

Q1.

Through out the few years of meditation I grew to have more focus. Also I have grown to have more patience then the time I didn’t do meditation. The meditation helped me grow other things that help me like how to control your anger or how to relax.

Q2.

The thing I learn from meditation is that I learn that I can relax when I’m doing the meditation. Also I learned that I can use meditation to focus on class when I can't focus. I learn a lot about meditation. Meditation can help your health and your mind. It also helps to focus and relax.

Q3.

I want to learn what my maximum focus time is in meditation and how I can focus more. In meditation I want to learn more how to focus on meditation and relax in meditation. And learn more about the benefit of meditation.
